We are starting a blog story on Yoga and its benefits for children (Kids yoga india ). This is a guest post by Ms Sarita Thakur, a registered Yoga practitioner and therapist with 7 years of experience.
Introducing your children to yoga at an early age can help them inculcate healthy habits in their lifestyle and set the basis for a fit future. In today’s highly competitive environment, children spend most of their time between school and homework. The extra-curricular activities are also somewhere related to these which leaves very little time for free play. At such an early stage, children deal with peer pressure, fears, insecurities, academic stress.
Yoga at an early age infuses energy and encourages their self-esteem. Yoga offers enormous physical and mental benefits to children. It not only enhances their strength, coordination and flexibility but also improves their concentration and relaxes their mind. Yoga will give them energy and the balance they need to handle their environment. Yoga teaches children techniques for self-health, relaxation, and inner fulfillment, they can navigate life’s challenges with a little more ease.
Doing yoga, children play, exercise, connect with the inner self, and develop an intimate relationship with the natural world around them. When Yogis developed the asana thousands of years ago, they lived close to the natural world and used animals and plants for inspiration. When children personate the movements and sounds of nature, they have a chance to get inside another being and imagine taking on its qualities. For example, when they assume the pose of the lion (Simhasana) they experience not only the power and behavior of the lion, but also their own sense of power: when to be aggressive, when to retreat. The physical movements in asana introduce children to yoga’s true meaning: union.
Yoga can provide a medium to children to socialize, learn the essence of living a fit life and a healthy habit which they can follow throughout their life. When they stretch like a dog, balance like a flamingo, breathe like a bunny, or stand strong and tall like a tree; they are making a connection between the macrocosm of their environment and the microcosm of their bodies. Children start to understand that we are all made of the same stuff. We are just in different forms. Check the asana which can be introduced to children at an early age and will benefit them in day to day life.( Yoga and Kids)
